Raksha Bandhan is a popular annual Hindu festival, celebrated in South Asia and other parts of the world, especially by Hindus. Rakshabandhan is celebrated in the month of Shravan in the Hindu calendar, which usually falls in August. This sisterhood festival, which originated in folk culture, had different names depending on the location; In some places, it was called Saluno, Silono, and Rakari.

In rural North India where exogamy is prevalent in many villages, a large number of married Hindu women return to their parents’ homes every year for the festival. Many young married women arrive at their birth home a few weeks in advance and stay until the ceremony. Raksha Bandhan means “protection, bond, or care” in Sanskrit. There is a lot of meaning hidden in the name Raksha Bandhan itself. Raksha means to protect. And Bandhan means tying the rakhi. In return for this sacred thread, Rakhi promises to protect the sisters and protect them from any harm. According to tradition, after tying the rakhi, the brother gives a gift to the sister.
